tbd: The Gift

Jackie Voyer is a high school student in Michigan who loves her normal teenager life: her mom, music, art, writing poetry, reading mysteries, and her best friend, Emily. Emily Richards is a petite, smart, artist who also happens to be on the cheer squad, and has a jock boyfriend. Emily says she is going to break up with Caleb, but Jackie doesn't know why Emily’s breaking it off. Emily says she’ll write it all down in their shared notebook and meet Jackie after school to give it to her. Emily never shows, and that's the thing. Jackie knows immediately something is wrong, because Emily would never stand her up. Not ever. At first people don't believe she’s missing. Everyone thinks she is with someone else, but Jackie knows Emily better. Within twenty-four hours, the police and Emily’s mom are out looking for her, too. Jackie feels the need to help, but in the middle of trying she starts receiving mysterious, threatening text messages and notes saying Emily’s fate is tbd (to be determined). Add to that the morbid dreams and visions that Jackie starts having, and she sure she is losing her mind. As the search for Emily becomes more desperate, Jackie finds out more about herself, the students at her school, and her family than she ever wanted to know.
