From the author: Program planners combined feedback from previous orientation sessions and relevant literature to determine a new framework to support faculty career development. The Professional Development Planner is based on the traditional three-part role of the faculty (teaching, research, and service). The purpose of this paper is to present an overview of the rationale for such a product--an inside look at the process leading to the selection of specific materials and the explanation of how the tool led to immediate changes in the training initiatives of both the research office and the faculty development office.
