Mark Twain in Love

When writing Mark Twain's love story in fictional form, it was necessary to invent conversations not recorded in published accounts of his life. Also, in keeping with the fictional character of the narrative, several imagined scenes and embellishments were add. The chronology of Mark's Elmira campaign, however, was not altered, and the principal events of his courtship actually occurred as noted in the story.
