Iroha-Karuta is a play appeared in Edo period (1603-1868). The game teaches children the wisdom for living and the inconsistencies with which we have nothing to do with.
From Edo to Taisho period (1912-1926), there were published
more than 40 variations of Iroha-Karuta. In the game, there're some controversial proverbs. We know all of them are true and often happen in our life. The contents seem to have changed gradually as the time goes by. Some of them aren't understandable now, but there are totally full of humor and sometimes of playful touch with irony in Edo period, that's "Iroha-Karuta" !
