On 9th April 2009, a devastating earthquake hit Abruzzo, in Italy. L’Aquila and its rich artistic heritage was destroyed, hundreds of lives were taken away.
The emotions woken up by this tragedy have driven the author to honour his city his own way. In this book he recalled his youth, his college years, downtown and surrounding mountains, ‘82 Football World Championships. A story which has everything and nothing in common with the earthquake. Because from that he began searching lost time, because the ten stories are studded with presages (“as that morning in ’85, when the earth trembled during an Italian test at school, and we all ran out holding our pensâ€). Also because one of characters has lost her life with her two sons in April 2009. The author says: "These chronicles are true and tell about L’Aquila since it’s my city.
It is not the only place devastated by April 6th earthquake. Many other villages and towns were shocked violently. They are probably less known than L’Aquila but not less important. There are not places better than others, there are not people different than others.
The spirit that binds all the people is their love for homeland and neighbor.
Evoking and sharing this love is the foundation of a new beginning."
The book contains computer artworks of the places mentioned in the stories, and it's eriched by watercolor & Indian ink illustrations by Concetta D'Aurelio.
Translated from the Italian by Nando Cutarella.
