Excerpt:

Clara found herself at the helm one day, simply keeping the ship on course, when she caught sight of herself in the mirror that the captain had set up. Amusingly he said that it would help him know if a ship was sneaking up behind him. Clara was convinced that he just liked looking at himself at the wheel, not that she could blame him. Still, catching sight of herself made her realize how much her own appearance had changed over her time on the ship, to say nothing of her clothes. She dressed like one of the men now, her hair was now cropped very short, and her face had taken on an edge she didn’t have back on land. Still, she found it appealing because she was truly living for the first time in her life.
