Digital voltmeters, unlike moving-needle voltmeters, display their measurements in a row of numerals. virtually eliminating human error interpretation. However, simple voltage representation is not adequate unless the increment displays available are so close as to make it possible to discriminate from among tiny voltage differences. Because of its many capabilities, the modern digital voltmeter is a complex instrument, one which can be approached only by taking first things first.
