‘The Bhagavad Gita contains the voice of God and it speaks to each of us, to every mind and heart – individually. This intimate communion transcends the merely intellectual, in every way.’
The Bhagavad Gita forms a part of the 5000 year old Indian epic, the Mahabharata. As the great Pandava hero Arjuna stands on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, preparing to fight a vast army led by his kinsmen and his gurus, he is stricken with doubt and despair. He turns to his divine charioteer Krishna for solace and counsel. The ensuing exchange between the two, in 700 slokas, couplets, is the highest concise expression of philosophical and metaphysical Hinduism.
During his discourse, Krishna reveals his Viswarupa, blessing Arjuna with an awesome vision of the Cosmic Form.
This strikingly different translation of the Song of God remains rigorously faithful to the original Sanskrit, without compromising its poetry.
Ramesh Menon has written many widely-read books in the Great Indian Tradition. These include the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, a life of Krishna, the Siva Purana, the Devi Bhagavatam and the Bhagavata Purana. All these titles are available from the amazon.com kindle store.
