The Book: A Novel Calling

Jonathan Peaker is stuck. His lucrative job provides for his two girls. But designing subliminal images in advertising to manipulate unconscious minds is like a noose chafing his neck. Despite the risk he walks out.

With his daughters visiting Mom in New York City, Jonathan flies to Los Angeles to clear his mind. Adrift in another city he meets a quirky old man in faded clothes and a touch of tattered class. The mysterious stranger says he has a key to an enchanted world where Jonathan will “see what is.”

Without a job he can respect, and lured by a mere thread of authenticity, Jonathan plunges into a secret unpredictable world of glowing possibilities and grievous challenges in order to find a new way of being.

J.R.R. Tolkien believed that adults need fantasy more than children do, precisely because they know more about the world and facts of life that can disturb mature minds. He thought that fantasy stories bring valuable gifts, like Consolation and Enchantment, to the minds of grownups during hard times. The Book is a fantasy for adults, a spiritual Odyssey that may add solace to modern life.
