Peter West's competent handbook covers the usual features found in books on palmistry--the lines in the palm, the shape of the hand, and smaller skin patterns--but if you're looking for a more advanced work, you may want to try Edward Campbell's Encyclopedia of Palmistry. West delves a little more deeply into fingerprints, adornments such as watches and jewelry, and connections between palmistry and other occult arts like tarot and numerology; but where The Complete Illustrated Guide to Palmistry really shines is in its illustrations. The color photographs are a perfect match for the subject area, shaming the line-art found in standard palmistry texts and eliminating the need for verbose descriptions of hard-to-locate features on the hands. --Brian Patterson
