Dominant Issues in Medical Sociology

This edition has been updated and now includes articles on "homecare", "hospice", and rationing and the ideology of exclusion in health care. Chapter Two is now subtitled "Beyond the Sick Role" to indicate the new focus on the limitations of the sick role in discussing chronic disease and the need to analyze the sick role within the context of chronic disease. Part 3, "The System", treats the organizational issues in context. The articles focus on two major issues related to health-care organizations: the movement from a "service" to a profit-business orientation; and prospective payment (fixed payment DRGs).
