English in Singapore: Research on Grammar is a collection of new articles that is a collection of new articles that addresses important aspects of grammar in Singapore English. The first nine chapters are descriptive analyses of aspects of Singapore English grammar such as missing grammatical subjects; (the absence of) past tense marking, and other aspects of Singapore English verbs; plural marking of nouns; relative clauses, passives and adverbials, and peculiarly Singaporean constructions (don’t know and particles such as and particles such as la). Other chapters deal with problems in the teaching of grammar in Singapore, in three main areas: prescriptive books of common errors, connectors such as however and consequently, and teachers’ beliefs about grammar and grammar teaching. The problems of the use of Singapore English grammatical features in creative literature are also discussed. A bibliography of 230 works on Singapore English grammar is included.
