Ananda K. Coomaraswamy (1877-1947) pioneered one form of cultural studies in India. His analysis of Indian civilization extended to Indian ideas and theories of architecture. This volume in the Collected Works presents the essays that best represent his thought on the hermeneutics of Indian architecture, i.e. its "why," not "how."
