VRRP is a protocol that dynamically assigns responsibility for routers on a network. In a VRRP setup, one router is elected as the master, with the other routers acting as backups in case of the failure of the master router. In the event of an outage, once the down machine is fixed, it automatically becomes the master again, all without a network administrator having to reconfigure a large number of hosts. Using VRRP, network administrators can ensure that their networks stay up and running and eliminate costly downtime. Cisco, Juniper, Nortel and other networks use VRRP. Importantly, the book contains network configuration examples. Written by experts who helped design the protocol and who have real-world experience deploying it, VRRP is the only book specifically focused on VRRP.
