Description

Amazon Exclusive: A Letter from Martin Addision, Author of Painter 12 for Photographers

Martin Addison

Dear Amazon Readers,

I have had a camera as long as I can remember, but I became more serious at age 16 when I saw a color slide presentation by Kodak and was enthralled by a series of close-up photographs of flowers. This sparked an interest in macro photography which has lasted to this day.

I rapidly found that I preferred an impressionist form of photography and delighted in taking a step away from reality, developing this aspect through the use of extreme close-up, multi-exposure, montage and camera movement.

I started working digitally around 1996 when Photoshop 4 was released, and very quickly added Painter (now Corel Painter) to my regularly used programs. I soon found myself doing talks and workshops to help people learn how to use Photoshop and Painter. I had regular requests to recommend a good book on Painter for photographers. As there was very little available at that time, I was persuaded to write one myself. The rest is history, as the saying goes. My first book on Painter was published in 2004, and the fourth and latest in 2011.

In my book I demonstrate how to use the tools and techniques available in Painter for readers with no knowledge of painting. The fact that photographs are always the starting point for my tutorials means there is no need to be able to draw or paint in order to follow my demonstrations. The original image is always available to download and the video tutorials which are on the companion website show exactly how I work on a picture.
