The Gifted Child in Peer Group Perspective is a multi-faceted, developmental exploration of the peer relations of gifted children. Using diverse methods, the author reviews and analyzes the empirical studies on social status of gifted youngsters and contrasts these findings with the social self-concept of gifted children. Data-based approaches are augmented with the subjective, autobiographical records of the childhood peer relations of gifted individuals and portrayals of intellect in children's literature. The picture which emerges is of a highly heterogeneous group of children strikingly different from the traditional stereotypes embodied in folklore and the professional literature. This book is the only complete book on the peer relations of gifted children.
