The Theory of Equilibrium of Elastic Systems and Its Applications

This book is Castigliano's major treatise and is still among the more penetrating expositions of structureal mechanics based upon the principle of work. It was first published in 1897, but the English translation, the basis of this enlarged and corrected reprint, did not appear until 1919. Part I covers the theory. Part II is devoted to applications. For this edition, a 32 page introduction has beeen added, including a review of variational principles in elastomechanics, and a biographical portrait section containing pictures and brief biographies of Huygens, Born, Bernoulli, Menabrea, Crotti, Prange and others.
