Boesman and Lena

A small-cast, two-act play that takes place in the mud flats of the river Swartkops, South Africa, during the time of apartheid. A couple has been forced out of their home in the farmlands into the slums of Cape Town. Under great stress, their relationship goes through a storm. Their trials dramatize the loss of dignity and rootlessness brought on by apartheid, but also a testament to human resilience and the will to survive. The play became a film in 2000, starring Angela Bassett and Danny Glove.
