"He's starting to crash!" Dr. Hooks had been working in the ER long enough to know that if he didn't act quickly his patient would soon be dead. The blood pressure was dropping, the pulse rising, and all signs pointed to a massive internal hemorrhage. But this time the patient wasn't a person. The patient was the Emergency Department itself, and it was hemorrhaging dollars. The hospital 'family' was at the bedside struggling with the decision that would determine its fate.
