Description
This is much more than just another cookbook. It is a "love letter" to the Central Coast. Stephanie shares stories of growing up on the Central Coast and her favorite seasonal vegan soup recipes, seven per season. The book is illustrated with lush color photography by local photographer Sam Peck, who captures the beauty and character of Central Coast landscapes, farms, and farmer's markets. From the Authors: My love for cooking started when I bought a little vegetarian café in Morro Bay, California called "Shine." After running Shine for 4 years, I sold the business to create a more simplified operation that could focus specifically on using seasonal and locally produced fruits and vegetables. Working at the farmers markets for years selling fruit produced on my family's organic farm, I was experienced in the challenges that came along with having an outdoor food venue. I chose to create soups as they were the perfect vessel in which to showcase specific fruits and vegetables in any given season. I love the idea of serving soups containing fruits and vegetables from surrounding farmers market stands and being able to point to where e ach ingredient came from. Stephanie Burchiel My interest in photography began when I took my first camera along to Vietnam in 1965, courtesy of the Navy's Seabees. After that, I began a long airline career and at the same time, started studying photography in earnest. I worked for Thai Airways in Bangkok for several years as the airline's advertising manager and company photographer, and traveled throughout Asia and Europe photographing the many exotic destinations the airline served, for use in our advertising. Later, I worked for Boeing in Seattle helping customer airlines in Japan, China and Vietnam with branding and advertising. In 2002, I moved to Cayucos, and began capturing the capricious moods and theatrical light of this remote coast, and other dramatic landscapes. Sam Peck
