In The Cowgirl Sisterhood: The Membership Drive, Part I, Cousin Nancy's best friend Carol Vail, are the only two members of their exclusive Cowgirl Sisterhood Club, in Medina, Texas. When Fay, calls Nancy and tells her that there is trouble in paradise and begs her to come out and help her, Cousin Nancy and Carol load up and head out to Northern New Mexico, taking their dogs and horses. In the final chapter of The Membership Drive, Part I, cliffhanger Cousin Nancy has ridden her horse, Maya, out to the other side of a ridge to check it out for Fay, because the Ponderosa Ranch is so big, Fay hasn't ever been there. The Part I cliffhanger ends with Cousin Nancy discovering acres of an illegal crop of marijuana being grown on the Ponderosa Ranch. Then Maya and she get spotted and are chased by a war-whooping, arrow-shooting, maniac, on horseback, wearing a gigantic, buffalo headdress. Cousin Nancy crying and praying and holding on to Maya, for dear life and wondering what would my brother Ronnie do.
