Wire binding allows the book to open flat for ease of use. It includes 171 wildflowers from the mountains and meadows of Northwestern Colorado. Although all were found in the vicinity of Steamboat Springs, CO, but many are widespread and can be found in other parts of Colorado as well as in neighboring Rocky Mountain states. Colorado noxious weeds are included and identified with an icon. Pages of heavy-duty paper are color-coded for ease of field use. Common names are provided along with their associated scientific names in the index, and scientific names are also listed alphabetically. Consistent information is provided for each plant, including habitat, size, flower structure and blooming time, stem and leaf structure, and brief notes of other interesting features, such as historical use, origin of the common name, or alternate common names. Teresa Audesirk is a Professor Emerita of Biology at the University of Colorado Denver, and a coauthor of the college textbook Biology: Life on Earth, now in its 10th edition.
