The Longman Companion to Victorian Fiction

The present volume aims to represent the fullest account of English fiction between the years 1937 and 1901. It contains over 1000 biographical entries and over 600 novels synopsized. It contains background material on the publishers, reviewers and readers of the form. The material is arranged alphabetically and while designed to be economical in expression, it aims to meet the high standards of factual accuracy needed by scholars, while retaining the human and literary interest that is generally associated with such Companions. It should be useful to students of literature from GCSE level through to postgraduates.
