Chester is faced with the toughest decision of his life: Which of his newly divorced parents should he choose to live with? His mother is a wealthy but unstable businesswoman who "needs" him, while his father is the easygoing owner of a bookstore in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

How Chester finds a way to deal with his ambivalent feelings and with the guilt that accompanies his choice makes for moving and heartwarming story of a boy caught in an all too familiar crisis of modern times.
