This collection of photographs is the product of Brunkhart s 20-year labor of love, documenting the lives of snowboarders, skaters, and renegades. Brunkhart is currently sorting though tens of thousands of negatives, scanning select frames, and selecting images to be included in the Dreams compilation. Unlike many other projects documenting extreme sports and alternative lifestyles, Brunkhart seeks not only to convey a sense of action, spectacle, and excitement. He is selecting images that convey depth, originality, and honesty. This is not to say that Dreams wont include images of boarders at their best, but only that Brunkhart is upping the ante in regards to the genre s artistic standards. How Many Dreams in the Dark is organized around the central theme of dialogue between revolutionary dreams and rebellious dreamers. Dreams abound within snow/skate culture, becoming manifest through superhuman feats of flight over strange landscapes. The book s objective is to both spread and protect the dreams of the past, while inspiring new dreams in new comrades. Extended captions and short stories tell the story behind the photos. It is more than just a photo book, with unique moments captured of Craig Kelly, Jamie Lynn, Temple Cummins, Tex, Matt Donahue, and a host of others.
