Pete Fowler is young, ambitious, handsome, by most female judgment calls, and works as a detective for the Tusa Police Department. Up to this particular point in his career, most of his work has been routine and often boring. The same pattern holds true for his romantic connections. Things are changing swiftly though and a murder victim on Memorial Avenue leads him into puzzling clues, dangerous criminals, and a lovesick feeling over a beautiful woman that is completely out of his class. His boss, Captain Miller, is tough, and a veteran in the field of law endorcement, but he allows Pete a free hand to try and solve the most baffling case in a decade of Tulsa crime history. Helen Kennedy is Miller's woman, but she comes to the assistance of Pete after he is shot from ambush.
