Description
In reflection of our natural lives, "American Amaranth" begins and ends in a dream. In between, the reader will journey around the globe and participate in America's struggles for freedom. Only 82 days elapse from beginning to end, but they determine the course of the new American Century. Technically detailed naval battle scenes take you to the South China and Philippine Seas, the Taiwan Strait, and the Sea of Japan. War is seen in vivid color from the decks of US ships in the Arabian Sea, Persian Gulf, and eastern Mediterranean. Careful analytic descriptions of air, land and sea combat in the Middle East, Central and East Asia, Latin America, and North America unfold in the narrative.Highlighted throughout the book, however, is a man's personal struggle to overcome physical disability, emotional hardship and sorrow. Admiral Julian Stansfield recounts his life in memories, as he leads the United States in a titanic attempt to help pacify and reorganize our violent world. In the end, love conquers all.Weaving history into speculative fiction "American Amaranth" follows a US military family as it confronts the upheaval of World War III. A timeline of world history is explained to better illuminate how and why wars develop. Perhaps by better knowing the direction we are traveling as a people, we can change our route and prevent a calamity.Mankind may be unimportant in the infinite scope of the cosmos, but we are not unimportant to ourselves or to each other. We need each other on this journey through 'Time and Space'. Human interaction, discourse, and peaceful coexistence are essential to the further cultural advancement of mankind. The evolution of our minds and future progress in science, medicine, technology, and governance demand that we allow for differences of opinion with respect to religious and ideological beliefs. Race and creed should not be discriminated against. Freedom and justice for all peoples must be safeguarded.
The heroes of the American Amaranth Anthology (AAA):
The Stansfields - Robert, Julian, Julius, Michael and Mark; Louis Stevens, Marcus Callanan, Adel Zia, Pablo Salazar, Joseph Mitrano, Hickory Calhoun, Mitnick, Raul Sierra, Jorge Sierra, Garfield, Reynolds, and many, many more. In each of their own particular ways, the heroes uphold values necessary to live "free".
The heroines of the American Amaranth Anthology (AAA):
Olivia, Rebecca, Nasrin, Claudia, Ann, and Sarah. Their strength is symbolized by the "Winged Victory". Their backgrounds and histories are different. They are all similar in their strength of spirit and their belief in justice and freedom.
What is an amaranth?
The red globe amaranth is a vivid red flower which mysteriously retains its color long after it's cut - months and even years. In Ancient Greek mythology, it was the flower of the gods on Mt. Olympus, symbolizing all things worthy of eternal life (ie. great virtues and deeds).
The amaranth were made into garlands and wreaths to adorn the heads of victorious Greek generals and heroes on their return from battle.
The amaranth flowers were placed on the graves of fallen Greek warriors to honor them into the eternal afterlife.
Poets and writers over the past 200 years have used the amaranth to depict and describe "everlasting" love between a man and a woman. It is a lofty symbol for a lofty emotion.
In AA, the flower is used by Olivia and Julian Stansfield as a conceptual emblem to describe their love for each other, for their children, and for their country.
