Laurel Sinclair has settled into a quiet life in the sleepy town of Sussex, CT. By day, she runs a successful antiques and architectural salvage shop, but she has recently added a night job to her resume, PAI - Paranormal Activity Investigator. Hunting ghosts is becoming an obsession, particularly since the second Saturday in May is fast approaching. Affectionately known as Loser's Day, it is an annual celebration of the town's historic loss to the British in the War of 1812. It also happens to be Laurel's 41st birthday, and because Laurel has always believed she will live to be eighty-two, Loser's Day is also her half-life birthday. She didn't think of celebrating, but her good friends Tate, Jerry, Joey and Ted have pushed her into having a half-life party, and suddenly Laurel is in a panic to figure out where she has been in life and where she is going. She becomes obsessed with trying to understand why her grandfather has never kept his promise to contact her from beyond the grave, and she lauches a scientific and spiritual quest to discover what really happens to us when we die. Riddled with a cast of eccentric New Englanders, including a ghost named George, and a painting that no one seems to like, but everyone wants to own, The Half-Life Party is a comical, yet thought-provoking, race against the ticking clock of time to find peace in life and hope in the afterlife. Because life is full of possibilities .... you just have to go out and look for them.
