I couldn’t speak the words yet, but I had to write them down; I was molested by my stepdad. As I began to struggle through the long healing process, I felt extremely isolated and alone. Unable to speak out, my silence only made things more difficult. Determined to not let fear control me, I allowed myself to fall in love. Soon, I began to realize how much being molested tainted my emotions. Although I loved, trust and openness eluded my grasp. In the end, I realized that I needed to first learn to love myself, before I could successfully love someone else.
