Description
During Europe’s political and economic turmoil of the late twenties, a boy child is born to a poor family in Northern Greece. Having survived the fate of two of his siblings which died in infancy, he enters the stage of life unaware of the multitude of surprises which it has in store for him. With parts of Modern Greek history provided as a backdrop for his formative years, we “listen†to him as he narrates the dramatic details of an abused childhood and “observe†him as he enters manhood and manages to overcome the many obstacles and challenges which confront him. This memoir is an eighty-year journey through his extraordinary life. Having tea with the Queen or being on a first-name basis with a future Prime Minister and other world-renown personalities did not affect his outlook of that life. A few real-life vignettes of humor and (clean) sex are included as a minimal counterbalance to the profoundly realistic dramatic scenes of the narrative. In addition to a fleeting perusal through the current economic problems of Greece, the book also deals with the political betrayals and the military and corporate intrigues and conspiracies which are interwoven in the narrative and which reveal the manner in which Greece was victimized by the superpowers.
