Every commercial pilot has to be familiar with the airworthiness performance requirements laid down for each aircraft type in its flight manual, and the subject forms an important part of syllabuses for professional pilots' licences. These performance requirements cover such aspects as takeoff and landing distance, the effect of weight, altitude and temperature, cruise flight level and speed, and descent angle and rate. This book provides a guide to the performance regulations in force for Europe (JARs) and the USA (FARs) and it also covers the British Civil Airworthiness Regulations, BCARs, Section D, which are being progressively replaced by (G)JARs. It makes a point of avoiding scientific jargon and extensive use of formulae, and explains the reasons behind the regulations so that the reader gains a fuller understanding of why they are drafted.
