Description
William "Bill" Tudor Gunston, OBE (1927 - 2013) was a British aviation and military author. He flew with Britain's Royal Air Force from 1943 to 1948, and was a flying instructor. He spent most of his adult life doing research and writing on aircraft and aviation. He was the author of over 350 books and articles. During his career, he spent time as the Editor of the Aero-engine Division of Jane's Information Group (1995-2007), was the Assistant Compiler for "Jane's All The World's Aircraft" (1969-1995), was the technical editor of "Flight International Magazine", and the Technology Editor of "Science Journal". His great talent was to communicate technical details in a manner that made them readily understood by the general reader. In the 1950s and '60s, when British aviation was making major advances and new aircraft appeared annually at the Farnborough air show, his writings inspired a generation to take an interest in aviation. His Flight Handbook became a huge international success.
