George Pavlopoulos, a poet `as Greek as Proust is French' in his translator's words, has published only one book of poems, which the late George Seferis recommended Peter Levi to translate. George Pavlopoulos grew up during the Nazi occupation and his poems are infused with memories of the war. And as Peter Levi writes, `He is not isolated from anything important in Greece...
