Analytical chemistry of niobium and tantalum (Analytical chemistry of the elements)

The growing use of niobium and tantalum and of their compounds in various branches of modern technology has encouraged a detailed study of these elements. Many publications on the chemistry, technology, and metallurgy of niobium and tantalum are now available. A large number of studies on the analytical chemistry of these elements have recently appeared in the Soviet Union and elsewhere, but the relevant publications are not always available to the analytical chemists for use in their routine laboratory work. The present monograph is an attempt to systematize the available factual material on the analytical chemistry of niobium and tantalum; the compilation is based on the available literature and on the personal laboratory experience of the author. The monograph describes chemical, physicochemical, and physical methods for the determination of niobium and tantalum in various natural materials and industrial products, and for the determination of impurities in metallic niobium and tantalum and their compounds, of high-purity grade. The most reliable and proven methods have been described in detail. Special stress has been laid on the methods of separation of niobium from tantalum and their separation from other elements, such as titanium, zirconium, molybdenum, tungsten, etc.
