Stone Bear, the Cherokee ex-marine, and his friend, retired FBI agent Webster, go to upstate New York where murdered Judge Foster was shot with the .38 revolver D.A. Martin had in his briefcase when he heard the shot. Stone Bear must determine how the killing was done and help track down those responsible. Tracking the killer to Mexico, California, and back. Once caught, Claude helps Mad Dog Morkowski, a deranged sociopath, escape in trade for his going after Stone Bear.
