Expanding the Writing Process with Elaboration

Developing ideas for paragraphs and essays is a primary goal of any middle school Language Arts writing curriculum. Even though students have been instructed in the writing process since third grade, many of them graduate from the eighth grade with no concrete idea of what it means to write well-structured and well-supported essays.
