Description
The emergence of new experimental facilities producing radioactive heavy-ion beams means we can study nuclei far from stability, i.e. under conditions similar to those only previously found in astrophysical objects (stars, supernovae, etc.) Also the development of supercomputers means we can study nuclei under extreme conditions by computer simulation. Authors are mostly USA based. This volume contains 32 invited papers. This is a relatively new field, developing rapidly. Definitive books cannot yet be written, hence conferences are held to update researchers on new results. Massive parallel supercomputers have allowed for investigation into a wide range of reactions and properties of short-lived radioactive nuclei - important in both nuclear and astrophysics.
