Architecture in Transition

In the late 1880s Canadian architects felt themselves threatened by the overwhelming popularity of American architects and architecture. Their response to this threat marked the beginning of almost two decades of change and reform in both architectural design and professional organization. This work places these crucial years in a historical and ideological context, expanding our view of the world of Canadian architects and of the development of Canada and its national culture.
