The King's State: Proprietary Dynasticism in Early Modern France

This volume traces the course and development of the institution of proprietary dynasticism as it was reflected both in political and legal debate and in key episodes. Places and times were selected partly because of their inherent interest, as with the succession struggle over the accession of Henry IV or the wars over the Spanish succession during the later seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, and partly because they have an illustrative quality, enabling us to observe proprietary dynasticism at work.
