This is a study of the tradition of European unbelief and its expressions in the printed literature of France. Part I charts the path of the current of dissidence from its pre-Christian origins to the middle of the sixteenth century; Part II reexamines the case of the Cymbalum Mundi; and Part III reexamines the Dialogues of Jacques Tahureau.
