Drum Sessions: Book 1

Becoming a well-rounded drummer requires a thorough understanding of drum set techniques and the basic of music in general. Following this book page-by-page will give you the tools necessary to perform the music you want to play. Use the features in Drum Sessions to develop your new-found skills. Study the THEORY boxes and complete the WORKSHOPS to strengthen your fundamental musical knowledge. Develop your drum set skills and technique through the use of GROOVE CONSTRUCTION exercises, FILL STUDIES, and CHOP BUILDERS. Build your knowledge of the drum set through study of STYLE and SET TECHNIQUE boxes. Play along with the accompaniment tape on the selections that have a cassette logo. The tape contains accompaniments for each MINI JAM and the five SESSIONS. The selections are mixed twice - first, for you to hear how your drum set parts should sound; second, for you to play along. Use the tape counter spaces beside each logo to log each selection for easy access. Perform the SESSIONS with keyboard, guitar, and bass players. Their parts appear in other Sessions books for their instrument. These other parts are also recorded on your accompaniment tape. The first six pages of the book will introduce you to the drum set and the fundamentals of the grip, motion, time, and counting.
