Companion to the High Holydays Prayer Book

The Companion to the High Holydays Prayerbook provides introductory notes and self-contained essays on a wide range of subjects related to the text of the Machzor, and presents some basic Jewish concepts. The subjects covered are: Rosh Hashanah; the Liturgy; biblical readings for Rosh Hashanah; sermons delivered on the subjects of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur; and broadcasts made by Lord Jakobovits between 1968 and 1971. This volume can be used by study groups, schools, colleges and individuals as an aid to enhance the High Holyday services, making them more meaningful and inspirational. It aims to help the reader to use the holiest moments of their life to gain a deeper appreciation of Jewish values and virtues, turning the renewal of each year into the renewal of the Jewish spirit.
