Structural Aluminides for Elevated Temperatures: Gamma Titanium and Other Metallic Aluminides

This proceedings volume includes contributions on both fundamental and practical aspects of metallic aluminides (Ti, Fe, Ni and others) for elevated temperature and high-performance applications. Topics covered in this title include: alloy and microstructure development and design; process development in ingot melting/casting and near-net-shape casting, wrought processing, and fabrication; component forming; microstructure-property relationships; deformation and fracture processes; environment effects including coating development; joining and machining; engine tests and applications; and, new concepts and developments. The objective of the symposium, held at the TMS 2008 Annual Meeting, was to share and discuss the advances made since the last two major intermetallics symposia, ISSI (2002) and ISGTA (2003), and to steer and stimulate the future research and development of structural aluminide alloys.
