The Purpose is to bring under one cover illustrations, descriptions, and uses of the many artifacts of the Indians of the prehistoric American Southwest...

Included are resumes of the work, rework, and use of such basic materials as antler, bone, clay, shell, stone, and wood. For the most part, these are the materials from which the prehistoric Indian made his implements: tools, weapons, utensils, ceremonial objects, ornaments and charms.

For comparative purposes, many illustrations of artifacts are accompanied by scales. The dimensions and weights are frequently noted.
