Magnesium Alloy's 2003 (Materials Science Forum)

Magnesium alloys are among the most promising ecomaterials for various high-tech applications in the 21st century. This 2-volume set comprises the proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Platform Science and Technology for Advanced Magnesium Alloys (PSTAM 2003). The papers cover a wide spread of perspectives on the academic fundamentals, and industrial applications, of magnesium alloys. The topics discussed include: fatigue and mechanical properties of magnesium alloys and detailed investigations of their microstructural evolution; plastic forming, as well as relevant alloy development, considered with particular regard to high-temperature properties; various ongoing developments in the fields of melting and casting, which are carefully described with the stress being placed on recycling design and processes; non-equilibrium processing, which is a hot topic in the drive to open up a new frontier in the field of advanced magnesium alloys; composite design, as weighted towards the search for new applications; corrosion and surface modification, with regard to modifying the weak points of magnesium alloys and improving their corrosion and wear resistance; and a new functionality which is greatly expected to widen the possible extension of intrinsic functionality to magnesium alloys and compounds.
