A reference manual of garden-worthy, braod-leaved trees and shrubs. The three volumes of this work cover more than 5000 species and over 6000 cultivars in nearly 800 genera. The work is aimed at growers and botanists. In addition to plant descriptions, there are details of the plants' uses, cultural requirements and place in garden design or landscape. Keys to all substantial genera are included, as well as nomenclature and references for further reading. There is a botanical introduction and glossary and a note on the general question of hardiness and "hardiness zone" ratings as applied to the British Isles, where local conditions can be notoriously variable.
