Description
This volume is one of a series of publications on the history and ecology of New Mexico and adjacent areas published by the Fort Burgwin Research Center Inc., a non-profit foundation created by the late Ralph M. Rounds for scientific and educational purposes. Taos Adobes is the result of studies conducted at the request of the Research Center during the summers of 196o and 1961 by Dr. Bainbridge Bunting, Associate Professor of Art at the University of New Mexico. The purpose of this still continuing project was to record, through photographic coverage and detailed architectural drawings, several of the delightfully picturesque old adobe buildings in the Taos area. Although these houses are a unique heritage of New Mexico, many of them are in advanced stages of decay and ruin. Indeed, several of the buildings described in this book have recently been destroyed.
