In the first half of the 20th Century, Michael Davidson was a widely-respected foreign correspondent. He joined the communists in order to oppose Hitler, crossed wartime Morocco in disguise, and opposed the British occupation of Malaysia and Cyprus. He also opposed British and American oppression of pederasty. He openly declared his his love of and sexual attraction to boys, which got him twice arrested and once sent to prison. Defiantly, he wrote the following sentence which opens THE WORLD, THE FLESH AND MYSELF: This is the life story of a lover of boys." This truly classic gay autobiography was first published in 1962. Then, it was long out of print--until publication of this 1985 enlarged edition, part of the Gay Men's Publishers series of "Gay Modern Classics." It contains added material from Davidson's original manuscript pages as well as personal photographs.
