From the late 1930s until 1983 Gabrielle Roy published numerous novels and collections of short stories through which she developed and exhibited a literary vision that was not only distinctly Quebecois and Canadian but also international in scope. This study analyzes the disparate themes, images, and preoccupations in Roy's fictional works that constitute the foundaton for this unique perception of life.
