The aim of this book is to provide a systematic overview of robotics technologies applied to bioproduction tasks. The special design considerations and unique features of the robots used to various bioproduction systems are discussed. A coverage of robotics fundamentals is presented in logical sequence, including the major components of manipulators, sensing elements, traveling devices, and reasoning algorthms, to aid the readers in understanding the underlying principles used in designing bioproduction robots. A large number of example robotic systems developed for use in the open field, within controlled environments, and in the food industry are described.
